  • As flight disruptions continue due to the ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano, new measures went into effect at midday Tuesday (May-18) that will let planes fly at higher ash densities than currently permitted.

Itinerary:

DAY 1 Colombo

Meet & Greet assistance upon arrival and transfer to Colombo. Enjoy a nice afternoon city tour of Colombo by driving through the commercial area of the “Fort,” the capital’s central business district and the location of the Colombo Stock Exchange. Continue your city tour by driving past Pettah, a neighborhood city famous for its open air bazaars, markets, ancient vehicles, mosques and temples. Some of the famous sites that you can enjoy are the Hindu temple, Jumi-UL Alfar Jumma Mosque, Wolvendaal Dutch Church, Hultsdorf Law courts, the residential area of Cinnamon Gardens, Independence Square and Bandaranayke Memorial International Conference Hall.

Enjoy a shopping tour of Colombo including a visit to a departmental store ODEL, which has internationally recognized “Designer” brands of clothing at reasonable prices. (City tour is 04 hours long)

DAY 2 Kandy

After breakfast proceed to Kandy. En-route visit Pinnawala where you will see the elephant orphanage, home for about 60 elephants including some abandoned baby elephants. The elephants in the orphanage are cared for, fed and trained by the wild life authorities. Catch the baby elephants being bottle-fed and be touched by the tenderness of such animals. You can also witness the elephants taking their daily baths by the river.

In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour of Kandy. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, and is a World Heritage Site. The name Kandy conjures visions of splendor and magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. Drive around the Kandy Lake built by the last Sinhala king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1798. Visit the Kandy town and Bazaar, the arts & crafts Centre and a gem museum and a lapidary.

In the evening visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and witness a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing.

DAY 3 Kandy

After breakfast visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. This botanical garden was first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and was expanded by the British. It is 147 acres in extent and provides an amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers.

DAY 4 Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya. En-route visit a tea plantation and a Tea factory, where the best tea in the world is produced. You will learn about the process of manufacturing tea. You can also see how tea is graded.
Taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory.

DAY 5 Bentota

After Breakfast proceed to the Beach Hotel in Bentota. Enjoy a relaxing day of sunbathing and swimming.
